Reading is a very personal thing, so why compete with others?

Reading can't be raced, but reading skills can be raced. A reading marathon is a race to examine reading skills. The first is to determine whether a book is worth reading in a short period of time, and the second is to acquire most of the knowledge and ideas that the book is intended to convey in a period of time. By constantly improving our ability to review our reading, we can more efficiently acquire the knowledge we need and thus build up our knowledge framework. We have included a test in the Readathon to check the quality of the finishers' reading. So the Reading Marathon is not just about the speed game.

Of course, the organizers of the Readathon are also veteran readers and very much agree that reading is a very personal thing. But we also know that promoting reading is not an individual thing, but the responsibility of every reader. Through a collective reading competition with a sense of ritual, Readathon creates common memories of readers, shows the society the act of reading and the readers, and allows people who have not read a book in its entirety to develop confidence in reading. We sincerely hope that people who love reading will push their friends around them who want to read but don't read often to participate together. In this way, the readathon becomes a great opportunity for every reader to promote reading to those around them. Thus, we say that the Readathon is a reading event that belongs to every reader.

What do I get out of it besides my race results?

Anyone who has run a marathon knows that in the end, to win a marathon, you have to know yourself and overcome yourself (including establishing your own rhythm, allocating your physical energy according to your habits, and overcoming the discomfort your body creates in the midst of constant exertion). What is important is that you mobilize all your knowledge, experience and memory in the process, keep going over one hill after another that requires association, derivation, deduction and even understanding the author's intention, and shape a new self at the moment of reading completion.

What do you want from a reading marathon?

Readathon believes that the decline in reading rates in modern society is related to the fact that the function of books for entertainment and access to information is being replaced by an increasing number of other cheaper and more convenient media in the Internet age. The most important function of reading - to enhance human understanding of the world - has become more important nowadays and has become the most important purpose of reading. Modern people need to build a complete framework of thinking about how the world works if they want to sift through the vast amount of information to find what is truly useful to them, and reading, especially intensive reading, is the most effective way to build this framework. Through research and practice on the purpose of reading, reading methods, and reading communities, Readathon aims to reconstruct the connection between readers and reading, so that more people can achieve lifelong learning through reading. To this end, Readathon not only organizes reading events, but also promotes reading education for the whole society: this includes three levels of reading method education and exploration of the world through the creation of general knowledge book lists and personal book lists.

阅读马拉松目前已与中央和国家机关、上海市级机关等政府部门;长三角三省一市公共图书馆;以及出版社、书店、高校、中小学等开展了各个层面的广泛合作。

How many years have passed since you last finished reading a book in one sitting? Do you remember the thrill of being immersed in a book and forgetting that time was passing around you?
Put down your phone, take a break from your circle of friends, and give yourself a self-training situation to consciously manage and use your attention.
Let's be like an aerial drone, skimming over the rivers and mountains, the stars and the galaxies in a book.
Then come back to reality and allow ourselves to focus more on devoting our limited energy to work and study, improving effectiveness and quality of life.
Tired or not, we have the ability to proactively plan and intervene!
